‘Never forget’... The ‘Gaps of Memory Project’ was launched 25 years ago. It is based on original testimonies by WWII Resistance Fighters and survivors. It also encompasses over 100 hours of exclusive recorded interviews. There is also a Film Collection (20 films), not to mention previously unpublished and rare photographs of the Liberation.
A simple interview in the European Press got the whole project off the ground in an eye blink. Witnesses from all over Europe who had never testified before reacted immediately. They were all in their late 80s or 90s.
This very special website dedicated to the ‘Gaps Of Memory Project’ is meant to present you with its variegated contents.Very soon, you’ll hopefully be able to visit it live at a Brussels-based location showcasing the whole project. We will not forget.

WITNESSES
About two years before his death, Patricia Niedzwiecki’s father told her about his survival in a concentration camp in northern Germany where he was made prisoner after his arrest in Lviv, in present-day Ukraine in 1941. That’s where he had taken refuge after the deportation of his entire family to Siberia in 1939.
Patricia Niedzwiecki knew nothing of her father's family's past, apart from the difficult last name she had inherited. So, she immersed herself in her family history with a view to making only one film which would be called ‘The Gaps of Memory’. The witnesses who wanted to take part in this original project from the end of the 1990s had never testified before. All of them survivors were in their 80s or even 90s and had all been active in the European Resistance from the very beginning. Once filming was completed, the project's corpus included around a hundred hours of unpublished filmed interviews, of which it was decided to make 20 films and screenplays, before presenting the whole project to the public.
